The developers behind Crying Suns have turned their talents to create Battlestar Galactica: Shattered Hopes, a new real-time tactical combat game. Alt Shift is back with a game based on the 2004 series, giving players the opportunity to manage their own fleet in an effort to save humanity from the robot Cylons. Faced with hard choices, players can immerse themselves in a story-rich game to engage in intense space battles. The developers have once again applied their roguelite design to gaming, but this time for the iconic franchise and teamed with Dotemu to publish it on Steam on May 11 for $24.99.

“Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a survival fleet-management roguelite with procedural narrative design and real-time space battles!”

– Dotemu

“Shoulder the heavy burden of leadership as you make critical decisions for your fleet’s survival under constant pressure. You command a fleet of survivors relentlessly chased by the Cylon Fleet. Each new run is another fleet’s attempt to rejoin Humanity’s last hope: the Battlestar Galactica.”

– Dotemu

This time around, players will take on the role of a Gunstar Captain who is protecting a fleet of their own, hoping to join the famous Battlestar. Your mission: save as many as you can while destroying Cylons along the way. “Prepare, fight, and survive at all costs. So say we all.”

Features:

  • A Thrilling, Story-driven Take on the Classic Series: In Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hope, the infamous sentient robot species known as the Cylons has decimated humanity’s haven and is closing in on your Fleet. Your only hope of surviving is to resist Cylon attacks until you can jump to the next sector of the galaxy, in a grand bid to ultimately reach the iconic carrier ship, the Battlestar Galactica.
  • Life-or-death Decision Making: You cannot win an all-out battle, and time between Cylon assaults is slim; learn and capitalize on your crew’s individual strengths as you find a way to succeed against all odds. Choose your priorities between battles, whether it’s searching for resources, resolving disputes among your in-Fleet factions, making repairs or upgrades, or searching for potential Cylon imposters among your ranks…
  • High-stakes Combat: Deploy fighters and direct them in hybrid real time and tactical battles to dispatch the Cylons, minimizing damage to your central ship while wielding its onboard defenses against your gravest threats.
  • Vast Replayability: No two runs in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes are ever the same. Each attempt brings new lessons as you adapt to defy your odds of survival, and tactical options broaden as you unlock additional squadrons, weapons and traits as well as meta upgrades to benefit future runs.

“As Commander of your fleet, you’ll have to get ready to struggle to balance the needs of the crew with the pressures of war. Can you survive with no nukes, limited scrap, and a constant threat from the Cylons? It’s a race against time and fate.”

– Dotemu

Battlestar Galactica: Shattered Hopes is a procedurally generated game where each playthrough is guaranteed to be a unique experience. Strategies used before may not be so successful the next time around, thus challenging players to adapt to new scenarios. So gather up your troops and prepare to scrap some tin cans in this next chapter of space survival!

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
