After years of rumors, yet more content is officially getting added to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with Songs of the Past DLC. From industry insiders leaking info to outside personnel who’re privy to CDPR’s goings on, there’ve been rumors circulating for some time that new DLC was in the works and that it would be announced in spring 2026, which has finally come to pass.
“Medallion’s humming… that can only mean one thing! It’s time to announce we’re working on a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!”
-CD PROJEKT RED
There are only a few details presently shared for the upcoming expansion. It’s said to arrive in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A forthcoming update to the game will introduce new system requirements to ensure players are ready for the DLC when it launches. The most notable changes with the new updates are a lack of support for HDDs, as the developers state SSDs “offer faster load times, smoother asset streaming, and improved overall performance,” and only processors capable of running Windows 11 will be supported.
Per CDPR: Starting from the next update, the new minimum requirements are as follows:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
VRAM: 6 GB
RAM: 12 GB
Storage: 70 GB SSD
OS: 64-bit Windows 11
“Get ready to return to the Path with Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2027.”
-CDPR
CD PROJEKT RED is working with Fool’s Theory to co-develop Songs of the Past and has said more details will be revealed this summer. While not expressly conveyed, it sounds as if this new content will not simply be some kind of cosmetic or basic upgrade but an actual new story. Artwork depicting a Leshen, ancient guardians of the forest, hovering over Geralt is also a strong hint of this as well. It’s been over 10-years since the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where it went on to win many awards, and fans of the game have been clamoring for years for more content, so it’s nice to see CDPR come through ahead of the next installment.
“The Witcher 3Â has sold more than 60 million copies since its release in 2015 and is the winner of more than 250 Game of the Year awards and 1,000 industry awards. It lets players explore a dark fantasy open world as witcher Geralt of Rivia as he takes on the most important contract of his life: saving his daughter Ciri.”
