
DLSS 4.5 arrived back in March with its up to 6x multi-frame generation technology, but its neural-rendered Ray Reconstruction feature has only just debuted, albeit inside leaked files via a beta game release. NVIDIA was open that DLSS 4.5 features would see a staggered release schedule, but thanks to this weekend’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta launch, the newest files are out in the wild, giving those with the extra time to drop into other games and test. The act of replacing DLSS files is nothing new, and there are repositories available online for them. Nor is it rare for the newest versions to be discovered in a game update or launch, and depending on the DLSS version another game, or more specifically its engine, supports, dropping in newer DLSS files can provide support to newer models and perhaps features. In this case, we’re talking about DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction.
DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction uses neural rendering to improve image quality where ray tracing or path tracing is used by utilizing denoising techniques. NVIDIA’s transformer model was added for this, bringing substantial image quality improvements and GPU performance optimizations. At this point, there are more than a few tech reviewers who can agree that while DLSS continues to impress as it progresses, the features provided by it are a bit confusing since now we have upscaling, denoising, multi-frame generation, and more bundled into it, and who knows what else NVIDIA’s engineers are planning to cram into it down the road, but meanwhile there’s excitement in Ray Reconstruction can bring to the table. There are roughly a half dozen games being tested with the new files, including Resident Evil: Requiem, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Alan Wake 2, and Crimson Desert.
