Minecraft is getting a new dimension called The Sift, its first in well over a decade, which will be introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II this week, with a full debut in 2027. First revealed at Gamescom and coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition, The Sift follows Overworld, Nether, and The End. A unique set of mobs, companions, and enemies, along with new rules and hazard blocks, will challenge players when they enter the new dimension. Players will experience “shifting tides” which can affect characters and companions alike, so all must remain vigilant. Mojang has also said it will introduce new biomes such as the Meadows and Carapace, but there are secret areas to discover in Minecraft Dungeons II for those willing to put in the time to explore.

The Sift will make its debut in Minecraft Dungeons II tomorrow, on September 29, followed by a larger launch in 2027. Not much else has been revealed by Mojang, but there is some coverage in the latest Minecraft Live September reveal event (above). To say it has been a spell since the last new dimension was released is an understatement, but players will thankfully be able to begin exploring it sooner rather than later despite the full launch not happening until the new year. Minecraft Dungeons II will be available for PC and consoles, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, tomorrow, as well as Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere and the developers have said more DLC is incoming. Meanwhile, on the other front, a second Minecraft movie is also said to arrive in 2027, with director Jared Hess returning along with Jack Black and Jason Momoa, so between new game content and the big screen, Minecraft fans have much to look forward to in the coming year.
