Sony has begun winning over the hearts of PC gamers thanks to its relatively recent decision of porting some of its bigger PlayStation exclusives over to the PC platform. The company’s newfound generosity is only going to go so far, however.

In a new interview with Game Informer regarding his current role as head of PlayStation Studios, Guerrilla Games alum Hermen Hulst talked a little bit about Sony’s decision to release PlayStation games on the PC platform.

While the executive admitted that the new business plan has turned out to be a “great success,” Hulst clarified that the console versions are, unsurprisingly, still the priority in Sony’s eyes and that PC gamers shouldn’t get their hopes up about being able to enjoy PlayStation exclusives anywhere near their initial launch.

“Typically, there have been about two years between the release on our platform and the PC platform,” Hulst noted in the interview, indicating that PC gamers will have no choice but to pick up a PlayStation 5 console if they plan on playing upcoming blockbusters such as Horizon Forbidden West before everyone else.

“[…] It’s really important for us to squeeze the maximum out of the platform, to build showcases for the platform, and really let the audience see what these great features are contributing to the overall experience,” Hulst explained.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has brought two titles previously exclusive to PlayStation 4 consoles to the PC platform thus far. They are Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn and Bend Studio’s Days Gone, which released on August 7, 2020 and May 18, 2021, respectively.

One of the next titles that Sony is rumored to be bringing to the PC is the latest installment of Naughty Dog’s action-adventure franchise, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Sony has been able to stay at the top of its game, and Hulst wants to keep that momentum going. “We are growing PlayStation Studios,” he says. “We are investing in the amazing teams we have. We are signing up new developers. We continue to focus on quality. We continue to focus on experiences that in my mind are experiences that matter – that sometimes only could have been created by us. That’s what I stand for. And I will ensure that we’re going to carry on making those.”
