Infinity Ward appears to be gearing up for an official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 announcement. The developer has changed the header image on its official Twitter account, and while the photo looks like a mistake or bad choice at first glance, brightening it up reveals Simon “Ghost” Riley, one of the franchise’s most popular characters. Riley was introduced in 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and is easily identified by his skull-patterned balaclava.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Announcement Teased as Infinity Ward’s Twitter Goes Dark (IGN)

If you head to Infinity Ward’s Twitter, you will notice that its profile picture is all black, which companies have done before ahead of a big reveal. IW’s header image also appears to be a black image, but you can see the faintest image if you look close enough.

After IGN brightened up the image, it sure looks like fan-favorite Ghost is hiding in the dark waiting for his next move. You can see the brightened-up image below and compare it to Ghost and his iconic skull mask in light.

As part of a community update for Warzone players, Activision confirmed in February that this year’s Call of Duty game would be a sequel to 2019’s critically acclaimed Modern Warfare. The game is being developed by Infinity Ward on an all-new engine and is rumored to feature a campaign involving Colombian drug cartels.
