Lady Gaga has officially joined the cast of Todd Phillip’s Joker sequel.
The 36-year-old Oscar and Grammy winner confirmed her involvement with Joker: Folie à Deux on Twitter today, sharing a teaser for the film on social media that depicts Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck (Joker) dancing with the character that she will be playing. This is almost certain to be Harley Quinn, Joker’s partner in crime, who was most recently portrayed by Margot Robbie in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie.
Gaga’s teaser for Joker: Folie à Deux can also confirm that the sequel will be headed to theaters next year on October 4, 2024, echoing a report shared yesterday by Deadline.

Lady Gaga’s involvement with Joker: Folie à Deux was originally teased in June, when reports began going out about how the singer and actress had been “in early talks” to star in the movie opposite of Phoenix. Phoenix hadn’t signed on for the film yet at the time, but the actor is obviously on board now.
A report from Variety about movie stars’ salaries has provided insight on why that was probably an easy decision for Phoenix, whose past credits include Gladiator and The Master.
When he first portrayed Gotham’s most infamous villain in 2019’s “Joker,” Phoenix earned $4.5 million. The film went on to earn more than $1 billion and landed the actor an Oscar. If Warner Bros. is going to get Phoenix back in clown makeup, it will cost the studio $20 million.
Phoenix won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2020 for his performance in Joker, while Gaga managed to earn an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2019 for “Shallow.” The song is featured in 2018’s A Star in Born, which Gaga starred in opposite of Bradley Cooper.
Gaga’s most recent role was in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, where she played Patrizia Reggiani, the Italian socialite who hired a hitman to have her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci, killed. The soundtrack for Top Gun: Maverick also includes a new track from Gaga called “Hold My Hand.”

I have to admit, I only think she’s hot if I can’t see her face. And even then it’s only mediocre level… she isn’t really anything special, unless she is wearing a steak.

When she puts forth the effort a hotness does exist. And in vilaness outfits... I could see it.
I've never found her all that attractive, but I did like her in American Horror Story Hotel for whatever reason. I don't think she's ever looked better than she does in that.
I got to admit she was pretty good in a Star is Born, but haven't really seen her act in anything else.
There's more to casting someone than their physical appearance. Juaquin Phoenix is ugly as fuck and he's a great actor and Gaga quite good herself.
Gaga, irrelevant of how you feel about the music she chooses to release, is an insanely talented musician and a literal genius by definition.
American Horror Story Hotel was the best American Horror story by far.
I'll allow that to pass as a subjective opinion. I just don't happen to share it.
I'll grant you that she has positioned herself as a pop icon using much of the same playbook as Madonna did in the 80s/90s. But I don't think popularity = genius

She’s significantly more impressive than Madonna. Madonna was a brilliant businesswoman and entertainer. But she can’t act, can’t play instruments, and has a mediocre voice. Gaga (despite not really caring for her music) is a much better artist all around than Madonna. I’d give Madonna the nod in dancing, though.
I think Madonna was actually better looking in her prime, but otherwise I'd generally agree with you.
I wasn’t factoring in their looks because I didn’t think that was what mattered. I find both rather plain looking when all the make-up is off.
