Asobo Studio has shared the system requirements for A Plague Tale: Requiem, and they seem to be pretty demanding. Players who are seeking the recommended experience will require an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or better GPU, coupled with an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or better processor, in addition to 16 GB of RAM and 55 GB of free storage space, preferably on an SSD. This combination of hardware is required to run the game at 60 FPS at 1080p in the Ultra setting, according to an additional note from Asobo.

A description for A Plague Tale: Requiem:

Far across the sea, an island calls…
Embark on a heartrending journey into a brutal, breathtaking world twisted by supernatural forces.

After escaping their devastated homeland, Amicia and Hugo travel far south, to new regions and vibrant cities. There, they attempt to start a new life and control Hugo’s curse.

But, when Hugo’s powers reawaken, death and destruction return in a flood of devouring rats. Forced to flee once more, the siblings place their hopes in a prophesized island that may hold the key to saving Hugo.

Discover the cost of saving those you love in a desperate struggle for survival. Strike from the shadows or unleash hell, overcoming foes and challenges with a variety of weapons, tools and unearthly powers.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the direct sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, which Asobo Studio launched in May 2019 to critical acclaim for its engaging narrative centered on two siblings who must contend with French Inquisition soldiers and rats spreading the black plague during the Hundred Years’ War in France. A video that NVIDIA premiered during its GeForce RTX 40 Series launch event, which can be seen above, demonstrates what the game can look like with ray-traced effects and NVIDIA DLSS 3.

Indeed. Pretty beefy specs.

But at the same time, the minimum specs are a GeForce 970, so the spec range is quite wide.

Geeze what does 1440p need?

My guess, since Nvidia used them as a demo during their 40 series launch, Nvidia talked them into doing some crazy over the top RTX mode that really punishes the hardware. If you just back it off to a more normal RTX level it will probably run just fine on lower end hardware with little to no impact to visual quality.

Nvidia being Nvidia.

Yea that's true. Hadn't considered that.

Something that AMD is very well-known for as well. *cough - GodFall, Dirt 5, AssCreed Valhalla, etc. cough*

AMD just.. being AMD. ?

The minimum specs are for 30 FPS at low quality at 1080p.

I usually treat recommended specs as the minimum, and I doubt publishers would look for ways to inflate system requirements by including features such as ray-tracing as a contributing factor without explicitly saying so. It's in their interest to widen the range of their potential customers — not the other way around. I'd guess they have more details available on their site for those who care enough to look.

Considering the abundance of inexpensive 4k/UHD displays, who is going to pair a recent/high-end PC with an HD monitor or TV? What a waste. Although "ultra" (e-peen) settings are usually wasteful, native 4k even at more reasonable presets is probably out of the question for most.

Same.

Wow, whoever said this game is demanding wasn't kidding.

Nvidia released a performance graph of the game at 4K with ray-tracing off to show off DLSS 3, and also to remind everyone to buy an RTX 4090 ASAP. Here's a link to the image (I didn't post it inline to avoid wasting everyone's bandwidth): https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/geforce/news/october-2022-rtx-dlss-game-updates/a-plague-tale-requiem-geforce-rtx-3840x2160-nvidia-dlss-desktop-gpu-performance.png
