BuzzFeed has learned that a movie based on BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in the works. It’s being written by Laeta Kalogridis, whose credits include Altered Carbon, Alita: Battle Angel, Terminator Genisys, and Shutter Island.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy did suggest something KOTOR-related was in the works during this year’s Star Wars Celebration. It’s hard to say how closely the film will follow the original story, but key characters such as Bastila, Malak, and Revan are sure to make an appearance.

Kalogridis is close to finishing the first script of a potential KOTOR trilogy, according to the three sources. She is the first woman writer of a Star Wars movie since The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, when Leigh Brackett received a cowriting credit with Lawrence Kasdan. Lucasfilm has been criticized for hiring only white men to shepherd the world of Star Wars.
