Introduction

The launch of TheFPSReview was something we did just prior to the launch of AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series. As a result, we have focused most of our coverage on AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series CPU’s and motherboards that go with it.

We have purchased several Intel CPU’s which have been tested alongside AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series for comparison. This was essential to showing how AMD’s CPU’s stacked up against the competition. However, we haven’t looked at many of Intel’s offerings. So, we are bringing you a review of Intel’s Core i9 9900KF. This was intended to be our first Intel CPU review, but we ended up doing the Core i9 10980XE first, so this article was slightly delayed before publishing now as a result of the timing.

Intel’s Gaming Dominance

While I think its hard to argue against AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series as being the best value in the market, there are people out there who are fiercely brand loyal to Intel. Not only that, but if all you are doing is building a gaming PC today with a focus on gaming and gaming alone, then going Intel may still be an attractive option.

In fact, this is the decision I made with my own personal machine. I was running an AMD Threadripper based system and found its performance lackluster in games. After diving into the issue as part of our coverage of the Ryzen 3000 series, I learned that Threadripper, it’s platform and the 2920X I was using, were less than ideal for gaming. I won’t get into the finer points of why this is, but the fact is, it was lackluster prompting me to upgrade.
