It’s the end of the line for the PlayStation Community forum.

In a message posted last week, community manager Groovy_Matthew revealed that Sony had decided to close its long-standing gaming forum on February 27th. No specific reason was given for the shuttering, but users are invited to “continue the conversation via PlayStation.Blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.”

The PlayStation Community forum has been around since the PS2 days, so this is certainly the end of an era. PlayStation fans have been able to use the forum as a gathering place to discuss their favorite titles with like-minded individuals, but going forward, they’ll have to wade through the complexities and chaos of social media, which appears to have claimed another victim.

The closure thread is full of sad and angry replies, including those who have blamed an “awful” redesign for the demise, but some posters have remained hopeful. “TheStill” suggests that it isn’t only the PlayStation Community forum that’s closing, but all of Sony’s forums, and that this could all be a part of some grand restructuring that will occur around E3.

Maybe by the time the PlayStation 5 rolls around, these old-school forum users will have a new place to call home.
