Microsoft’s Smart Delivery initiative has already earned its first big fan.

Shortly after the cross-buy feature was announced this morning, CD PROJEKT RED confirmed its support by revealing that owners of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox One would be getting the Xbox Series X version at no cost.

“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” the company said.

It isn’t clear when the Xbox Series X version will be released, but this is awesome news for Xbox fans who were thinking about holding off on their purchase until the definitive release.

The news also provides indisputable proof that Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works for next-gen consoles, which should also include Sony’s PlayStation 5.

According to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, Smart Delivery will ensure that Xbox fans have access to the best version of a game regardless of what they originally purchased. All Xbox Game Studios titles (e.g., Halo Infinite) will include this perk, but third-party publishers have to opt in.

“This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later,” explained Spencer.

Let’s hope that others follow in CD PROJEKT RED’s footsteps.
