Conclusion

In today’s review, we focused on overclocking the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Founders Edition video card. The video card debuted at $349 but has recently been dropped in price to $299 amid competition. This makes the video card even more appealing today. The goal was to find out how well this video card overclocks, how high we can get it, what differences in performance we can observe and the impact of the overclock on power and temperature. This article serves as a baseline for AIB RTX 2060 cards that we may review in the future as well as future generations of RTX cards at its price point.

Our final overclock results gave us about a 7% boost across the games we examined during the review at a 1080p resolution. We were able to increase the observed boost clock of the card by 6.9% and the memory clock by 15.7%. This led to a performance increase across our selection of games of about 7% across the board. It isn’t as high as we were expecting, or wanting, but the overclock is decent and could be the difference between achieving 60FPS or not in a game. Also, keep in mind this is a reference, Founders Edition video card. Retail custom video cards may overclock even better.

Final Points

Looking at our final results, one of the other conclusions that we’re able to reach about the GeForce RTX 2060 Founders Edition is that its 6GB of GDDR6 is becoming a true limiter of its performance in the heavier games. The GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER’s 8GB of memory lets it play at 1440p in each game in the test suite (Overclocking), whereas the card we looked at today could realistically run 1440p on some games but have to drop to 1080p on others. That being said, its closest competition is the Radeon RX 5600 XT which has the same memory limitation so it comes down to which card you think would be best for your needs. One thing is for sure, if you have a GeForce RTX 2060, or are considering one now that prices have dropped, overclocking can improve your experience with it.
