Sony has already shared the technical specifications for its next-gen console, but as we all know, powerful hardware doesn’t mean much unless there’s an engaging games library to back it up. Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan knows this all too well, which is why he’s announced “The Future of Gaming” event – a special, June 4th showcase that’ll give prospective PlayStation 5 owners their first taste of what games could look and play like on the mysterious system.

“…I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday,” wrote Ryan. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

It’ll be interesting to see what games might launch with the PlayStation 5 and what it’s capable of graphics wise, but the million-dollar question remains: will we finally get a glimpse of what the next-gen console actually looks like? Sadly, that may not be the case. Ryan teased that Sony would “still have much to share” after this event.

“This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together,” added Ryan. “A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”
