Cougar BXM 700

Cougar Gaming (“Cougar”) is a relatively new company best known among our European readers for producing cases and power supplies, along with other accessories. However, Cougar’s parent company, HEC, has been around for quite some time as one of the older PSU OEMs. So, it has been a long time coming but, today, we are finally looking at one of the Cougar branded products. The unit we will be looking at is an entry-level enthusiast product in the guise of the BXM 700.

HEC Group, AKA Heirochi Electric Corporation, AKA Compucase Enterprise CO LTD., is one of the oldest companies in the consumer SMPS (Switched-Mode Power Supply) business having been founded in 1979. By 1989, HEC had moved into case production, and then in 1997, it began producing SMPS. Today, HEC is one of the largest manufacturers of SMPS and its products can be found under the HEC brand, the CompuCase brand, and the Cougar brand, all of which are retail arms of HEC. In addition to its own brands, HEC has furnished power supplies in the past for Antec, Thermaltake, Xigmatek, and others. HEC has been known for its entry to midlevel products but with the launch of some of its newer lines, under the Cougar brand, HEC has moved into the high-end enthusiast realm.

Is This Cat On The Prowl?

The Cougar BXM 700 is the first power supply we have seen from Cougar here at TheFPSReview. This particular unit is probably going to be more interesting for those users who are looking for an entry-level/mainstream product for family members to build or as a replacement/backup unit. However, that is a huge market and if this unit does particularly well it might even make for a usage case beyond that. However, before we get to far ahead of ourselves, let us first see what Cougar has to say about this unit:

BXM is a high-reliability PSU with 80Plus Bronze efficiency certification. Its DC-DC structure plus durable HDB fan provides stable voltage output and smother cooling. BXM is the best value choice.

COUGAR Xformer: This high-frequency transformer reduces copper loss and adapts to rising temperatures, while its PQ-Type core further increases efficiency and reliability while keeping the temperature under control.

BXM includes 105ºC Japanese standby capacitor will keep providing the stable PSU for a long time.

Let’s move on now and see what we can expect when a user purchases the Cougar BXM 700 power supply (Part Number 31BX070.0001P) in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
