NVIDIA had plenty to share today, but its biggest announcement (and we mean that quite literally) was its TITAN RTX successor: the GeForce RTX 3090. We’ve already known of its existence for quite some time, but CEO Jensen Huang still managed to shock the world by revealing that the “BFGPU” (DOOM fan, Jensen?) would be capable of 8K HDR gaming. That’s equivalent to an eyeball-searing resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels.

What’s even more mind-blowing is that the GeForce RTX 3090 can not only run games in 8K at over 60 FPS, but with ray tracing enabled thanks to the magic of DLSS. According to benchmarks shared by NVIDIA, the BFGPU manages up to 8K/78 FPS and 8K/74 FPS in Death Stranding and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, respectively. In less graphically complex titles (e.g., Rocket League, which doesn’t feature RTX), the GeForce RTX 3090 can even hit frame rates of up to 108 in 8K!

“The GeForce RTX 3090 is a big ferocious GPU (BFGPU) with TITAN class performance,” wrote NVIDIA. “It’s powered by Ampere—NVIDIA’s 2nd gen RTX architecture—doubling down on ray tracing and AI performance with enhanced Ray Tracing (RT) Cores, Tensor Cores, and new streaming multiprocessors. Plus, it features a staggering 24 GB of G6X memory, all to deliver the ultimate gaming experience.”

NVIDIA will begin selling the GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition on September 24 for $1,499.
