If you missed out on a GeForce RTX 3080 today, don’t fret, as an even better version could be just around the corner. NVIDIA has released the whitepaper for its Ampere GA102 GPU architecture, and eagle-eyed readers spotted something interesting in the tables comparing the GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080, and GeForce RTX 3070 with their predecessors.

For some reason, NVIDIA intentionally noted the amount of memory for its latest flagship card (“RTX 3080 10 GB Founders Edition”) but not for the others (“RTX 3090 FE Founders Edition,” “RTX 2070 Founders Edition”), which has led many enthusiasts to believe that a version with more memory (i.e., 20 GB) is in the works.

We’ll admit that this is pretty weak evidence, but if you’ll remember, there’s been plenty of rumors going around about a GeForce RTX 3080 variant that packs twice the memory. It isn’t clear whether NVIDIA would go with the Ti or SUPER branding, but the release seems perfectly plausible based on what AMD is allegedly putting into its “Big Navi” flagship. The most powerful Radeon RX 6000 Series model will supposedly have 16 GB of RAM, which is a generous improvement over the GeForce RTX 3080’s 10 GB.

According to VideoCardz’s sources, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti/SUPER is definitely on its way. What’s really amusing is that it could release before the end of this year to counter Radeon’s efforts. How would early GeForce RTX 30 Series adopters react?
