GIGABYTE Unlocks AMD Smart Access Memory on 500 Series Motherboards, Improving Radeon Gaming Performance by Up to 17 Percent

AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processor and GIGABYTE 500 Series motherboard users who were lucky enough to find a mythical Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics card will definitely want to head over to GIGABYTE’s support site, as BIOSes enabling Smart Access Memory on the X570, B550, and A520 chipsets have now been released.

Based on GIGABYTE’s tests with an X570 AORUS MASTER motherboard and AORUS Radeon RX 6800 XT MASTER GPU, users can expect increased performance in select titles (e.g., Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) of up to 17 percent and 10 percent in 1080p and 2K/4K resolutions, respectively. (Note that these estimates were attained with the help with AMD’s new tuning preset, Rage Mode, which is provided via Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition.)

Turning on AMD Smart Access Memory is a simple process—all users need to do is enter the BIOS and enable the “Above 4G Decoding”/”Re-Size BAR Support” options under the settings panel and confirm that the system is operating under UEFI mode. After the feature is activated, users should see “Large Memory Range” listed under their GPU’s “Resources” tab in Device Manager.

To utilize Smart Access Memory for optimized performance is quite simple on GIGABYTE’s AMD 500 series motherboards pairing AMD Ryzen™ 5000 series processors and Radeon™ RX 6000 series VGA cards. Just simply update to the latest BIOS and VGA card driver from GIGABYTE’s official website. Enable “Above 4G Decoding” and “Re-Size BAR Support” in the BIOS setting, and make sure the system operating under UEFI mode. The Rage mode can be simply activated in the VGA card driver.
