Power and Temperature

We will now take a look at the peak power and temperatures these video cards output. All power measurements are taken at the wall with a Kill-A-Watt reader. Temperatures are recorded using GPU-z logging while driving laps in F1-2020.

MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GAMING X TRIO Video Card Power and Temperature graph comparison

In stock operation, the MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GAMING X TRIO manages to consume less energy than either of the competing video cards. This is somewhat expected behavior seeing as this part is lower in the product stack when compared to a 3070. What was less expected was how well this card performed in terms of its thermals. Operating at a maximum of 69c while exceeding boost clocks by 105MHz is an accomplishment that MSI can be proud of. This is cooler than the Founders Edition at 74c. Add into that equation that we could barely hear that card in its overclocked configuration, it’s impressive. MSI’s cooling technology is working really well.
