1440p Overclocked Radeon RX 6800 XT Performance
We will start with 1440p gameplay performance comparing Overclocked Radeon RX 6800 XT with the default performance and GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition. All games are using built-in benchmarks, when not applicable we are using a manual run-through. Ray Tracing performance will be shown on a separate page. 4K is on the next page.
Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077 we are running the latest patched version of the game at the time of testing, which is version 1.04. There are future patches planned for this game, so performance may change after this evaluation. However, what shouldn’t change is the performance advantage overclocking the Radeon RX 6800 XT has over the default performance. In this game, at 1440p and the Quick Preset option of “Ultra” the Radeon RX 6800 XT averages 66FPS. Overclocking it improves performance by 6%. That brings performance up to 70FPS. Those performance levels are very playable in the game on the video card at this resolution.
When new patches come out, it should only help performance even more, which is already good here. However, even overclocked, the GeForce RTX 3080 FE does have the lead on performance still. Overclocking the Radeon RX 6800 XT has helped to make it more competitive with the GeForce RTX 3080 FE however.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion we are running the game at 1440p in Ultra quality preset with HD Textures installed. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is playable in Ultra at 86FPS. This is 2% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT improves performance by 6% and puts it at 91FPS average. This game is very playable at 1440p and Ultra quality on the Radeon RX 6800 XT. Overclocked, the Radeon RX 6800 XT is 8% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn the Radeon RX 6800 XT performs very well at 126FPS and is 5% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the Radeon RX 6800 XT improves performance by 6% and now it is 11% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is interesting. At default performance the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT by 2%. However, when we overclock the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT it takes the lead in performance. Overclocking it has improved performance by 9% in this game, the highest so far. This puts its performance now 6% above the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. This game is very playable on the Radeon RX 6800 XT at this resolution and Ultra settings.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
The same thing happens in Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is equal in performance to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Once we overclock it though performance increases by 7% and is 7% faster than the RTX 3080 FE.
Control
In Control, the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is faster, even with the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT overclocked. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT comes in at 103FPS, and overclocking it improves performance by 3%. This is not enough to overcome the performance lead of the GeForce RTX 3080 FE which is 9%. In this game, the Radeon RX 6800 XT just falls way behind, and overclocking cannot get it up to RTX 3080 FE levels.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
In Wolfenstein Youngblood we see the same thing as we did with Control. The GeForce RTX 3080 FE takes the lead even over the overclocked Radeon RX 6800 XT. The Radeon RX 6800 XT gains 3% when overclocked, but that cannot reach RTX 3080 FE performance. It’s close though, and really at framerates this high it doesn’t matter so much, the game is very playable regardless.
The Division 2
In The Division 2 we see the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT come in under the GeForce RTX 3080 FE performance. That is until we overclock it, overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT improves performance by 4% and that is just enough to eek out performance over the RTX 3080 FE.
Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus definitely needs all the performance it can get. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is playable at 73FPS at 1440p in Extreme quality. Overclocking it improves performance by 8% which is pretty significant in this game. Overclocked, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT inches out performance over the RTX 3080 FE, where before it was under.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is also playable at 1440p with max settings. Overclocking it improves performance by 8%. However, that isn’t enough to outpace the GeForce RTX 3080 FE which is faster by default.
