Runic Games’ award-winning action RPG Torchlight II is the second-to-last title to be offered for free as part of Epic’s 15 Days of Free Games promotion. This is one of the major alternatives to Diablo, but unlike Blizzard’s classic hack-and-slash action RPG franchise, Torchlight II is said to be speedier and more fluid, with more complex stats and item enhancement. Its cartoony art style is also a distinct change of pace from the gloominess that dominates the Diablo series.

“Years ago, the Heroes of Torchlight saved the world from the ancient evil, Ordrak,” a story overview reads. “Now someone has stolen the essence of his power, and is using it to upset the balance of the six elements. After witnessing the destruction wrought by this terrible artifact, you’ll begin a quest to uncover the villain’s identity and avert disaster.”

“The trail leads from the beleaguered Estherian Steppes, through the war-torn Mana Wastes, and the haunted ruins of an ancient dwarven civilization, before descending to a realm where no mortal has set foot for thousands of years and where an even more terrible evil struggles to unleash itself onto the world.”

Torchlight II features four character classes to choose from, all of which can be played as either male or female and customized with various cosmetic features. The sequel also introduces a multiplayer mode that can be enjoyed over LAN or internet.
