During last week’s all-virtual CES, LG announced that its Z1, G1, C1, and B1 2021 OLED TVs would be joined by an entirely new lineup of OLED models aimed at budget buyers. Dubbed A1, the cheaper series will reduce the price of entry by forfeiting 100/120 Hz panels for slower 50/60 Hz screens, as well as switch out its more expensive siblings’ HDMI 2.1 ports for HDMI 2.0. These downgrades basically make LG’s new A1 lineup a fine option for TV and movies, but not so much for gaming.

“LG A1 will be available in 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches,” FlatpanelsHD noted in its coverage. “It is a range of affordable 4K OLED TVs that will help take the advanced self-emissive display technology mainstream. You are still getting deep blacks and high contrast, accurate colors, HDR picture quality (with support for up to Dolby Vision IQ), and fast response time.”

“A1 will have a 50/60Hz panel, as opposed to the 100/120Hz panel in other OLED TVs, and HDMI 2.0 – which makes sense given its 50/60Hz limitation. It will not support VRR either but will still offer eARC and ALLM, both of which can be supported on HDMI 2.0 chipsets. It has the non-Pro version of ‘OLED Motion’.”

LG’s new budget A1 OLED lineup will reportedly launch this year. The display giant hasn’t released any photos of what they’ll look like yet, but we suspect that they’ll echo the design cues of the B series. Their sales pricing should also be very interesting, being that 2020’s BX models fell as low as $1,200 during Black Friday.
