If you’re one of the few PlayStation 5 owners who hasn’t experienced Santa Monica Studio’s critically acclaimed action-adventure title God of War yet, now may be the time to finally pick it up, as the developer has announced that it will be releasing a new patch tomorrow that makes the game look and play better than ever. Available on February 2 at no cost, the update will introduce a new video graphics mode called “Enhanced Performance Experience” that not only allows the game to be played in 4K, but at a smooth 60 FPS.

“[…] our team has been working on a video graphics mode option that will enable players to get the most out of the increased performance capabilities of the PlayStation 5,” Santa Monica Studio explained. “On the PlayStation 4 Pro version of God of War (2018), you have a choice between two graphics modes: one that favors performance and one that favors resolution.”

“Coming to you tomorrow on February 2nd, we will be releasing a free patch that replaces the current video graphics mode option with a new default setting that will offer the best of both performance and resolution to our PlayStation 5 players! You can go back to the original PlayStation 4 ‘Favor Resolution’ video graphics mode at any time by selecting Original Performance Experience, which will offer 4K Checkerboard Resolution* synced to 30 FPS.”

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

  • Syncs to 60 FPS
  • 4K Checkerboard Resolution
  • 2160p

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War was released in 2018 and marked a significant shift for the violent, Greek-inspired franchise with a more grounded presentation and the introduction of a second protagonist: Atreus, Kratos’ son. The game is also available as part of Sony’s PS Plus Collection for PlayStation Plus members and PS5 owners, which comprises 19 other generation-defining games such as Bloodborne, The Last of Us Remastered, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
