Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to the PlayStation 5 in the form of an enhanced, next-gen upgrade dubbed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Square Enix announced this new version of the hit 1997 RPG during today’s State of Play event, which included a trailer showcasing the game’s higher-quality textures, improved lighting, and other updated visuals. FFVII Remake Intergrade will also feature a 60 FPS “Performance Mode” and a brand-new story episode that allows fans to step back into the boots of popular ninja and thief Yuffie Kisaragi.

“You’ll play a brand-new adventure as Yuffie Kisaragi, a new playable character for this episode,” Square Enix confirmed. “This ninja from Wutai sneaks her way into Midgar and devises a plan with Avalanche HQ for a thrilling mission to steal the ultimate materia from the Shinra Electric Power Company.”

“This new story episode will introduce you to new characters, and features expanded gameplay with new combat additions. You’ll gain a new perspective on the story of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, getting a taste of what else was going on in Midgar while Cloud and company were doing their thing.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be available on June 10, 2021 for the PlayStation 5 as an individual purchase or as a free upgrade for FFVII Remake owners. Square Enix didn’t share any information about the inevitable PC port, but we suspect that it’ll follow in the footsteps of Intergrade with higher frame rates and improved 4K/HDR support, as well as new features such as photo mode.
