AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3000WX Series processors can now be purchased by DIY enthusiasts and other general consumers. Red team announced the news in a tweet this morning, which confirmed that these multi-core monsters would be available for workstations beginning today. AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO models were previously exclusive to OEMs and prebuilt systems, such as Lenovo’s ThinkStation P620.

“Designed for professional workstations from OEMs and system integrators, AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors uniquely offer full spectrum compute capabilities with unmatched core counts for multi-threaded workloads plus high frequency single core performance for lightly threaded workloads,” AMD wrote in a press release from last year regarding the ThinkStation P620. “This combination makes AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors the best choice for artists, architects, engineers and data scientists.”

“AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors are purpose-built to set the new industry standard for professional workstation compute performance,” said Saeid Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Client business unit. “The extreme performance, high core counts and bandwidth of AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors are now available with AMD PRO technology features including seamless manageability and unique built-in data protection.”

AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO flagship is the 3995WX, which features 64 cores, 128 threads, and a base/boost frequency of 2.7/4.2 GHz. While the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X boasts a slightly higher base/boost frequency of 2.9/4.3 GHz, it lacks the PRO lineup’s exclusive security features, such as AMD Secure Processor and AMD Memory Guard. The former is a dedicated security processor designed to establish a hardware root-of-trust, while the latter offers full memory encryption to secure system memory.
