AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

For review today we have the built by AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card.  This video card will be sold on AMD.com.  This design is unique, and customized by AMD.  As you will see below, it follows the theme from the other Radeon RX 6000 series video cards.  It has the same design language.  Here is how the video card is put together in the slide below.

There are two fans on the top layer shroud in axial format, no blower here.  Underneath is a mold that consists of the heatpipes and fins for heat dissipation.  The entire piece, including heatpipes are black in color, and look quite cool.  Underneath that you will find a die-cast aluminum frame to support the entire video card and also aid in heat dissipation.

The PCB itself is made of a 10-layer PCB with 2 layers of 2oz copper.  AMD is quite proud of this 10-layer PCB, for extreme quality.  AMD is using high-quality and efficient power phases and standard power connectors.  There is a phase-change thermal interface material to transfer heat from the GPU.  On the backside is a fully realized backplate that forms around the video card and makes the video card completely covered.  The video card does support HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4.

The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT comes in a nice box from AMD, well cushioned. The video card is secured, and the top insert lets us know this is designed for 1440p gaming and has 12GB of memory, as well as PCIe 4.0 support.

The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT measures 10.5 inches in length, just under 4 inches in width, and 1.5 inches in height. This means that by length the Radeon RX 6700 XT is the same as the Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 at 10.5 inches. The width of all three video cards is also exactly the same. The only difference is the height, the Radeon RX 6800 XT has a larger height because it is thicker, while the RX 6800 and RX 6700 XT have the same 1.5-inch height.

Compared to the competition the Radeon RX 6700 XT is longer than both the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 are both 9.5 inches in length, so the Radeon RX 6700 XT is an entire inch longer. However, by width and height all three video cards are the same.

Another difference is the weight of the video cards. The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is much lighter in weight compared to both the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070. The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT almost feels impossibly light, like it is very airy or hollow. When you pick up the GeForce cards, they feel much heavier.

While that weight difference exists, the build quality of the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is still excellent. The video card is very solid in the hand and well put together. The entire video card is covered completely, the only inkling of PCB you can see is at the very bottom where the PCIe connector is. The material is also quite nice.

On the edges of the video card is an almost rubber feeling material, it’s at least more course than the metal parts, it feels good in the hand. It also helps so you maintain the grip on the video card and it doesn’t slip out of your hand, this video card is not slippery. For power, there is the standard 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connector needed.

Like its bigger brothers, the rear I/O plate has no signs of being vented. This means that 100% of the heat output will be exhausted into your case. It’s up to you to have good case air flow.

The only LED lighting is the RADEON on top, lit in red.
