Square Enix has revealed the final title for Project Athia: Forspoken. Originally announced back in 2020, the other-wordly RPG is being developed by Luminous Productions. Forspoken is a narrative-driven adventure set in the land of Athia.

Luminous Productions’ members include veterans from the Final Fantasy XV team. Forspoken also features talents from film and television. The writing team is led by Gary Whitta, whose writing credits include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars Rebels, and numerous The Walking Dead video games.

The main character in the game is Frey Holland, who is transported to the land of Athia and must learn to use magical abilities to survive. Frey is voiced by Ella Balinska, who starred in the 2019 Charlie’s Angels film and in various television series such as The Athena and Midsomer Murders.

As the first video game I’ve worked on, it’s remarkable to see the incredible world and story of Forspoken come together, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Frey as a character is real, she’s raw, she’s a girl who lost her way – both figuratively and literally – and is a character I immediately connected with, as I feel many people around the world will too when they set off on this adventure. – Ella Balinska

Forspoken is expected to launch on PC and the Sony PlayStation 5 sometime in 2022. The developers say the game is specifically designed for the PlayStation 5 to take advantage of its next-gen features.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
