To coincide with today’s Resident Evil Showcase event, Netflix released a new trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness that offers a glimpse into what fan-favorite characters Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield will be up to in the upcoming animated CG feature. While the minute-long trailer doesn’t reveal too much about the film’s plot, eager fans can check out an accompanying Q&A that Netflix posted with composer Yugo Kanno and director Eiichiro Hasumi, the latter of whom discussed his cinematic approach and how he felt working on the legendary Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will begin streaming exclusively on Netflix in July 2021.

Leaning on a suggestion from the Executive Producer Kobayashi, we decided to portray Leon as a somewhat cynical character in contrast to Claire. These events take place in 2006, between the time he was a young man filled with a sense of justice and 2014, when he had become slightly fatigued by the endless fighting as depicted in Resident Evil: Vendetta. The suit Leon wears is important as it symbolizes this position. I was impressed because he looks cool even in formal attire.
