Video Card Comparison

Now we are going to directly compare AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 FE performance in this game.  Remember, we are using the latest drivers from both.  We are performing a manual run-through in the full game.  We are going to compare NO Ray Tracing (but highest game settings) between the two and also HIGH Ray Tracing (and the highest game settings) between the two.  We are going to look at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K.  Note that AMD FidelityFX CAS is enabled, AMD FidelityFX CACAO is also enabled on both video cards, along with all the other game options and features at the highest value.  Variable Rate Shading is disabled so it has the best image quality.

1080p

Resident Evil Village 1080p video card performance comparison graph

In this first graph, we are at 1080p with NO Ray Tracing and the highest in-game graphics settings.  It’s very clear that the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is much faster than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 FE at the highest game settings, and no ray tracing.  The 6800 XT is producing 258FPS average while the RTX 3080 is at 227.  That makes the RX 6800 XT 14% faster at 1080p, and both video cards are of course very playable.

Now we have HIGH Ray Tracing enabled at 1080p on both video cards.  This means both video cards are running at the highest possible settings the game provides for image quality.  Now the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is on top in performance and performs 11% faster with HIGH Ray Tracing enabled.  Both video cards are playable, and well above 100FPS at 1080p with HIGH Ray Tracing.

1440p

Now we are looking at 1440p with NO Ray Tracing, but the highest in-game settings.  Once again, we see the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT pull ahead of the GeForce RTX 3080.  It’s 16% faster, but of course, both video cards are more than playable with very high framerates.

In this graph, we are now looking at HIGH Ray Tracing being enabled on both video cards at 1440p with the highest in-game settings.  Again, with Ray Tracing enabled the tables to turn and the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is on top in performance and outperforms the Radeon RX 6800 XT by 9%.  Both video cards are playable though with HIGH Ray Tracing, still above 100FPS on both, which is incredible for 1440p.

4K

Now we have bumped the game up to 4K with NO Ray Tracing at the highest in-game settings.  Even at 4K, without Ray Tracing, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is faster than the GeForce RTX 3080.  It’s 7% faster.  Both video cards are playable though at 4K, more than playable really.

Now we have enabled HIGH Ray Tracing at 4K.  Again, the tables flip, the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is faster by 7%.  Interestingly, the difference between the cards with Ray Tracing enabled keeps decreasing by resolution.  Also really interesting, both video cards are actually playable at 4K with HIGH Ray Tracing enabled, and not just playable, but high framerates also.  The RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 provide an average of 80FPS+ at 4K with HIGH Ray Tracing, and that is phenomenal.
