Naughty Dog has traditionally made its mark with story-driven, single-player titles, but the Uncharted and The Last of Us developer will be taking a bit of a detour for its next project. This is according to a pair of job ads published on Naughty Dog’s official careers page, which calls for a gameplay scripter and level/environment designer who will be assigned to work on the company’s “first standalone multiplayer game.” A statement released by Naughty Dog last year suggests that this title might be related to The Last of Us Part II.

It’s likely that the multiplayer title is The Last of Us 2’s delayed Factions multiplayer mode, which has possibly been expanded into a full standalone title. The job ads also match with comments made by PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst this month, who hinted at a narrative-driven online experience coming from PlayStation. “Who says that multiplayer experience cannot have great stories, right?” He said.
