4K Gaming Performance
We will now test 4K gaming performance.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
We expected Metro Exodus Enhanced would be demanding at 4K and not playable without DLSS, and we were correct. On these video cards you will need DLSS, or to lower the game settings to be playable. The performance is so bottlenecked without DLSS we are talking only two FPS difference between the RTX 3070 Ti FE and RTX 3070 FE without it. The Radeon RX 6800 has no hope here except to lower graphics settings.
When we enable Quality DLSS performance increases a lot, but the game is still not playable at these low framerates. It will require further decreasing image quality settings in order to make the game playable on these video cards. With DLSS enabled the RTX 3070 Ti FE improves upon the RTX 3070 FE by 7%.
Cyberpunk 2077
If you look carefully at this graph you will notice the AMD Radeon RX 6800 is actually on top, it’s providing the highest performance at 4K “Ultra” settings no Ray Tracing, Rasterized performance. It’s actually 6% faster than the new RTX 3070 Ti FE when Ray Tracing and DLSS are not used. The game is still unplayable of course at these levels, so you’d have to lower the graphics settings on all the video cards to be playable. But the RX 6800 still leads in non Ray Traced, non DLSS performance in this game even at 4K.
The other option, rather than lowering in-game graphics settings, is to enable DLSS on the GeForce RTX video cards. Doing this really helps improve performance to almost playable levels. Ultimately you’ll still need to lower them a bit. With DLSS enabled the RTX 3070 Ti FE improves upon the RTX 3070 FE by 6%.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion at 4K “Ultra” settings we again see the AMD Radeon RX 6800 on top. It’s 5% faster than the RTX 3070 Ti FE. At these performance levels the game is unplayable though, you will have to lower in-game settings, or enable DLSS. The RTX 3070 Ti FE improves upon the RTX 3070 FE by 13%.
Dirt 5
All video cards here are can play this game at the highest settings smoothly at 4K. The new GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FE is the faster video card overall, and improves upon the RTX 3070 FE by 8%.
When we turn on Ray Tracing with these video cards at 4K we finally start to see performance drop. The GeForce RTX 3070 FE and RTX 2080 Ti FE are at undesirable performance levels. However, the RX 6800 and RTX 3070 Ti FE are at playable performance levels. The RTX 3070 Ti FE improves performance over the RTX 3070 FE by 12%.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn all the video cards are playable at 4K at the highest settings. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FE has the clear advantage, and it provides 10% more performance over the RTX 3070 FE.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Similar to 1440p, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 performs very well in this game. It is the fastest video card here at 4K. Performance isn’t exactly desirable however, so we’d recommend lowering a few settings. Still, the RX 6800 will have the performance advantage. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FE improves upon the RTX 3070 FE by 8%.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
In MS Flight Sim 2020 the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FE offers the best, and same, performance as the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti in this game.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Wolfenstein Youngblood starts to show signs of slowdown with Ray Tracing enabled at 4K on these video cards. However, it is still playable. The RTX 3070 Ti FE gives the best experience and is 6% faster than the RTX 3070 FE. With DLSS enabled performance is very high and 5% faster than the RTX 3070 FE.
