Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for what could be one of this year’s most successful blockbusters, Dune. Directed by Sicario and Blade Runner 2049’s Denis Villeneuve, Dune is a big-screen adaptation of author Frank Herbert’s science-fiction classic that aims to scrub David Lynch’s critically panned 1984 version away with an all-star cast, gorgeous cinematography, and a script that’s easier to follow and more efficient at bringing the immense lore behind the Dune franchise to mainstream audiences. Dune will be released on October 22 in theaters as well as HBO Max as part of Warner Bros.’ same-day premiere streaming initiative for 2021.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
