The Intellivision Amico is a cute little system designed by some of the people responsible for the original ’80s console that features pre-loaded games, two iPod-like controllers with integrated touchscreens and motion controls, and a base that supports wireless automatic charging.

Prospective Amico owners will have to wait a little longer before they can determine whether the system has met its goal of “redefining entertainment,” however, as Intellivision has sent out emails alerting those who have pre-ordered that the console has been delayed yet again due to “unprecedented international component supply and logistics challenges” that are beyond the team’s control.

The Intellivision Amico is now slated for release by the end of the year. When the console does eventually come out, Amico owners will be able to enjoy six premium games that are pre-loaded into the system, but additional titles will also be available for purchase at launch for just $2.99 to $9.99 each.

Intellivision is headed by CEO and President Tommy Tallarico, who is best known for composing the soundtracks for many classic video games. They include Earthworm Jim and its sequel, Earthworm Jim 2, as well as MDK, Aladdin, and The Terminator.

We originally planned to launch Amico in the Fall of 2020 but had to adapt during the midst of the global pandemic disrupting our production. […] In spite of these supply hurdles hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. This will also allow us more time to optimise our operating system for future game development.
