3D Realms held a digital event called Realms Deep today that offered insight on some of its upcoming projects. One of those was Cultic, a new old-school shooter with pixelated graphics that appears to be heavily inspired by classic titles such as Monolith Productions’ Blood and Blood II: The Chosen.

What’s interesting is that Cultic was created by a single developer, JasozzGames’ Jason Smith. Calling it a dream project, Smith is blown away by how his experimentation with the game’s art style has led to a fully fledged game that will be published by 3D Realms. Cultic has actually been teased by Smith on social media for a few years, but it wasn’t until recently that it got noticed by 3D Realms.

According to the game’s description on Steam, Cultic tries to make things more interesting beyond simple shooting by allowing players to take down enemies in various ways that include laying traps or running around them so they take each other out with friendly fire. Players get an arsenal that comprises mid-century firearms and explosives to mess around with.

A playable demo for Cultic is available right now on Steam, but it isn’t clear when the game will be released. The system requirements for Cultic haven’t been released either, but it presumably doesn’t require anything exotic to run.

You died? So what? Tuck your guts back in and gear up to fight your way through the ranks of a mysterious and twisted cult. You, your guns, and your dynamite will have to shoot, slide, blast, duck, dodge, and maybe throw a gib or two to survive in this old-school-inspired shooter.
