Throughput Benchmarks (SEQ and RND)

CrystalDiskMark

We are using CrystalDiskMark to benchmark sequential and random throughput of read and write performance. For these NVMe SSDs, we are using the NVMe profile in CrystalDiskMark. This tests SEQ1M Q8T1, SEQ128K Q32T1, RND4K Q32T16, and RND4K Q1T1.

In CrystalDiskMark we are looking at sequential read and write throughput.  This is where the MSI SPATIUM M480 2TB SSD shines.  The SSD is quoted at 7000MB/s read, and here we are getting above that, 7113MB/s, so it is hitting its mark and then some.  Write speed is quoted at 6800MB/s, and here we are getting above that at 6875MB/s, once again hitting above its mark.

This is much faster than any other SSD on the chart, it’s over 2000MB/s more read speed than the fastest SSD, and 2600MB/s more write speed than any other SSD on this chart.  The graph really speaks for itself, raw throughput is fast, very fast, and the MSI SPATIUM M480 2TB SSD is not holding back.

The same repeats itself in the sequential Q32T1 testing, it’s reaching its maximum throughput on read and write.  Offering much better throughput performance in sequential data compared to the rest.

If there is one weak spot with the MSI SPATIUM M480 2TB SSD, it’s in the random 4K Q32T16 performance, if you can even call it a weak spot.  You can see here it lags just slightly behind in read throughput, falling under the SPATIUM M470, not a lot, but just slightly.  It’s decent on write performance though, surpassing the MSI SPATIUM M470, but just under the CORSAIR Force MP600.  It’s basically on par with these other SSDs in random 4K performance, rather than smoking them as it does in sequential data workloads.

It actually does rather well in the random 4K Q1T1 testing, exceeding the fastest SSD in these results.  It’s pulling 71MB/s, giving it the fastest read performance, and a very strong 260MB/s on write performance, giving us the best result.  Therefore, when it comes to random 4K performance, it’s very specific to the pros and cons, it can be very good, and other workloads, it can be just on par.
