Silicon Knights’ original and critically acclaimed Legacy of Kain title, Blood Omen, is finally available to PC gamers again 25 years after its release. The effort seems entirely owed to GOG, which apparently managed to dance around all of the messy legalities surrounding the iconic game. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain can currently be purchased for just $6.29 on the DRM-free storefront.

The reason that Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain has been missing from PC for so long is due to the amount of companies involved. As pointed out by a user on r/LegacyOfKain, Silicon Knights, Crystal Dynamics, Activision, BMG Interactive, and Semi Logic Entertainments have all had their fingers in the game, with IP rights shifting around following acquisitions and other changes. Activision owns the publishing rights to the PC version but has reportedly made things difficult for companies who have tried negotiating for its release in the past.

From GOG:

One of the darkest games of all time, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain for the PC takes gamers on an epic quest through a gothic universe fraught with murder, magic and vengeance.

Accentuated with cinema-quality voice-overs, dynamic lighting effects and more than 25 minutes of stunning full-motion-video footage, Legacy of Kain features an engrossing storyline that invites gamers to embark on a journey through an expansive world containing more than 100 hours of intense, blood-sucking, spell-casting gameplay.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver 2 are also available on GOG for $0.97 each. Square Enix removed Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver from Steam earlier this year to “work on some important updates,” but the game remains unavailable for purchase.
