Popular PS3 emulator RPCS3 has been updated with new visual fixes and enhancements that allow select PlayStation titles to be playable in a state that’s closer to their original console counterparts. Among those is The Last of Us, which now boasts proper dynamic shadows, as well as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, both of which now feature aiming reticles that aren’t a flashing mess. Various Ratchet & Clank titles can also be enjoyed at a higher FPS.

From the RPCS3 team:

Recently, kd-11 improved RPCS3’s immediate mode rendering and linear cubemap decoding which fixed broken lighting in many Insomniac games, and fixed dynamic shadows in Naughty Dog games and a handful of other titles.

Along with kd-11’s work, patch guru @illusion has been busy creating patches to uncap the framerates in Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, and A Crack in Time. As for the rest of the Ratchet and Clank games, increasing VBlank will uncap the frame limit on it’s own, so you can enjoy the whole series with no in-game frame limit! RPCS3 can be downloaded from its official website, but as the developers have warned, users should be running legitimate (i.e., purchased) versions of the games rather than pirated copies. An announcement from the team in October confirmed that the emulator is capable of booting every game for the PS3.
