This month’s highly anticipated release of The Matrix Resurrections will be complemented by at least one major game-related tie-in. That’s according to an asset discovered by a redditor on the PSN backend, which suggests that a title called The Matrix Awakens will be made available to PlayStation gamers in the near future. As indicated by the graphic, the “experience” was developed on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, a modern version of the popular game engine that enables heightened geometric detail and fully dynamic global illumination.

Three Matrix games have been released since the franchise’s inception in early 1999. They comprise Enter the Matrix (2003), a side story to The Matrix Reloaded; The Matrix Online (2005), an MMORPG; and The Matrix: Path of Neo (2005), a game that allowed players to step into the shoes of The One. The Matrix Online is notable in that it depicted the death of one of the series’ most recognizable characters, Morpheus, who was played by Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy.
