IO Interactive has announced that it will be offering free upgrades to anyone who bought the standard or deluxe editions of Hitman 3 on Steam.

All Hitman 3 standard edition owners will get a free upgrade to the deluxe edition, while all Hitman 3 deluxe edition or Hitman Trilogy owners will get a free upgrade to the Seven Deadly Sins Collection, a seven-part expansion for Hitman 3 that comprises multiple acts with new contracts and unique suits.

The decision was prompted by the assassination simulator’s disappointing Steam launch on January 20, which drew the criticism of PC players who weren’t happy with the game launching at a standard price point despite it being available through the Epic Games Store for over a year.

Negative reviews have also called out some of the game’s technical issues, as well as its many editions, which have been described as complicated and confusing.

“Ultimately, we didn’t meet our own expectations of a launch experience and we don’t like that our Steam community is beginning their HITMAN 3 journey in this way,” IO Interactive admitted.

“So, here’s what we’re going to do: Everyone on Steam who has already bought HITMAN 3, or anyone that buys the game through to February 19th 2022, will be granted a free upgrade.”

Hitman 3 owners on Steam should see their upgraded copies with additional content beginning on January 27, 2022.
