Calling NFTs “lucrative” is becoming more and more of an understatement by the day.

As revealed by the virtual collection’s official Twitter bot, a CryptoPunks NFT sold for 8,000 ETH yesterday, an amount that equates to around $23 million based on the coin’s price at the time of this posting ($2,864). The previous auction record was set by a CryptoPunk NFT called “Covid Alien” that sold to a billionaire buyer for $11.8 million.

CryptoPunks is a hugely popular NFT collection on the Ethereum blockchain that was launched by Larva Labs in June 2017. Some of the celebrities that reportedly hold CrytoPunks include Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, and Jordan Belfort.
