The mythical GoldenEye 007 remaster for Xbox Live may finally be releasing soon, as achievements for the game had briefly appeared on Xbox servers. True Achievements found achievements for it at the beginning of the year that led people to believe it was coming. VGC has maintained close contact with the developers, who explained an Xbox 360 version was completed in 2007 but could not release due to licensing issues. The game has been called “the greatest remaster you’ll likely never play.”

Speaking for the first time to VGC in a GoldenEye Xbox interview last year, the canned remaster’s co-directors said they didn’t think it would ever be officially released.

“It’s kind of bittersweet,” co-director Chris Tilston said of seeing the GoldenEye remaster leak into the public domain. “It means people get to see the work that was done, but it also masks some of the cockups that went on behind the scenes.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
