NBA 2K23 for the PC won’t include the latest and greatest technical features that developer Visual Concepts has cooked up for this year’s installment of its long-running basketball game series.

This is according to a FAQ on the official NBA 2K23 website, which includes a portion that explains how the developer is “passionate” about bringing next-gen features of NBA 2K23 to PC and Nintendo Switch but that the current version of the game has only been optimized for new consoles.

NBA 2K fans who wish to experience what will presumably be the best versions of the game will need to jump for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions, although Visual Concepts has claimed that the game will remain “fresh and innovative” on other platforms, echoing some of the claims that were made for last year’s iteration of the game.

“This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future,” reads a portion of a Q&A published on the official NBA 2K23 site. “For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.”

2K confirmed last week that Michael Jordan would grace the cover of NBA 2K23’s two special editions, the Michael Jordan Edition and Champion Edition. The latter will feature a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass, a “subscription-based product that gives fans access to games, live and on-demand, for the entire season.”

NBA 2K23 will be released worldwide on September 9, 2022, for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam platforms.

Along with Michael Jordan returning to grace the covers of NBA 2K23 this year, the game will also reintroduce The Jordan Challenge, which encourages players to recreate 15 iconic moments from Jordan’s illustrious career. All ten of the original Challenges from NBA 2K11 have been completely rebuilt from the ground up and will make their return this year – alongside five new iconic Jordan moments – for an entire new generation of players to experience. These Challenges take advantage of more than a decade of technological leaps to provide a completely new way to play through Jordan’s accomplishments – all housed within its own game mode.
