Sylvester Stallone has already managed to make his way into some of DC and Marvel’s films, but the actor is clearly wanting to dig deeper into the superhero genre.

Released today is the first trailer for Samaritan, a new action movie that stars the 76-year-old actor and Rocky legend as “Joe Smith,” a garbage man who is actually a powerful superhero. Smith has kept his power hidden for two decades but is compelled to become a hero again after meeting a young boy, who he forms a close friendship with.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film, which will begin streaming on Prime Video on August 26, 2022.

Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

Stallone’s more recent credits include Rambo: Last Blood and The Suicide Squad, in which he provided the voice for one of the antihero team’s most popular characters, King Shark. The actor will also be returning to the big screen in a fourth Expendables movie and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, both of which should be out next year.

Stallone launched an NFT project called PlanetSLY in March, including limited-edition series of 9,997 NFTs called “SLYGuys” that celebrate the actor. PlanetSLY is currently in its “conquer the metaverse phase,” according to a roadmap on the official website.
