Gaming Performance

Now we come to the interesting testing we are sure you all can’t wait for, we were also anxious to get to this part and see how it all ends up for gaming performance. In order to test this properly, really get a good feel for it, and cover all the bases for the big picture, we decided to test 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions, all three resolutions to see from top to bottom how these CPUs affect performance games. For testing, we are using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition video card. Since we are testing all 3 resolutions, it’ll be a good mix to see where the CPU matters and where it doesn’t.

All the graphs below are not sorted, they are not sorted from fastest to slowest as in previous graphs, instead, they are simply labeled in groups by platform, from fastest CPU to least fastest CPU. As you look at performance, try to look down the column of the resolution, to see which one is faster than the other, to help your eyes see which one is faster.

F1 2022

Intel Core i5-13600K F1 2022

In F1 2022 the Intel Core i5-13600K pulls in the same performance as everything else, at 4K. At 1440p though we start to see some differences, and the new 13600K is pulling in the exact same performance as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and improves upon the 12600K by a couple of FPS. It’s also 2% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X at 1440p. At 1080p the differences are a bit more pronounced. The 13600K is actually an FPS higher than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 2% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X. It’s also 3% faster than the previous gen 12600K.

Dying Light 2

Intel Core i5-13600K Dying Light 2

In Dying Light 2 the Intel Core i5-13600K is one of the strongest performers at 4K, similar to the 12600K. At 1440p the 13600K is 2% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X and Ryzen 7 5800X3D and on par with the 12600K. At 1080p the 13600K is 1% faster than the 7600X and 3% faster than the 5800X3D and on par with the 12600K.

Far Cry 6

Intel Core i5-13600K Far Cry 6

We actually see some differences at 4K in Far Cry 6. At 4K the 13600K is 3% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X and matches the 5800X3D. At 1440p the 13600K is a more significant 8% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X and 2% faster than the 5800X3D. It improves upon the 12600K by 5%. At 1080p the 13600K is 14% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X, which is pretty large. It’s also 6% faster than the 5800X3D and 18% faster than the previous gen 12600K which is big.

Watch Dogs Legion

Intel Core i5-13600K Watch Dogs Legion

In Watch Dogs Legion we find the 13600K to be on par with the 12600K at 4K, and just a bit better than the 7600X and 5800X3D. At 1440p the 13600K is 7% faster than the Ryzen 5 7600X and 4% faster than the 5800X3D. At 1080p the 13600K is 4% faster than the 7600X.

SUMMARY

We put the Intel Core i5-13600K Raptor Lake CPU through its paces and benchmarked synthetic and gaming scenarios at various resolutions. The CPU maintained a high-performance level, rivaling the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X in multi-threaded workloads, and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in gaming. It is loaded with modern features and cores for multithreading. However, it came at a high cost of power usage and temperature where it lost points for efficiency. Its overall value is detracted by way of this tremendous power utilization in order to maintain its performance leadership. Its overall value is good from a performance and price perspective, but its efficiency is the cost.
