Gameplay Performance at 4K
We are going to start with a focus on the 4K gameplay performance with the Radeon RX 7900 XT video card in raster performance on this page. Ray Tracing will be on a separate page. We will include FSR and DLSS performance on the same graph in the games that are supported. We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs. For video card comparisons we are using an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition. Our overclock is set at 3350MHz for the Max Frequency Slider in AMD Radeon Software, and memory is overclocked to 21GHz with Power Target at +15% and fans at 100%.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.0 was released on October 27, 2022, on the PC and uses the IW 9.0 gaming engine. The game supports all upscaling methods, including NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Image Scaling, AMD FSR 1.0, AMD Fidelity FX CAS, and Intel XeSS. We use the highest quality option of each. We customize every graphics setting to the maximum value for the best image quality and enable everything. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Call of Duty Modern Warfare II at 4K and Maximum Graphics Settings overclocking the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has increased performance by 7% bringing it to 109FPS versus 102FPS, and the game is very playable. At this performance level, the overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 15% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 FE and 42% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. FSR performance is also improved, with FSR the overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 7% faster than without the overclock. Overclocked, with FSR, the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 15% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 FE with DLSS.
F1 2022
F1 2022 was released on June 28th, 2022 on the PC and uses Codemasters Ego engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, AMD FidelityFX, and FSR. We are going to run the game with the highest quality settings of “Ultra High” and TAA+FidelityFX. We will enable DLSS and FSR as needed at the Quality setting for both. We will utilize the built-in benchmark in the Imola track, in dry conditions with a far-chasing cam.
In F1 2022 at 4K and “Ultra High” overclocking the Radeon RX 7900 XT improved performance by just 4%, increasing from 153FPS to 159FPS. When overclocked, the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 FE. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 25% faster. Overclocking also helps FSR performance, and with that FSR performance in the game is 24% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 with DLSS.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. For our benchmark, we are using a custom manual run-through at the end of the game hopping between rooftops, as well as free-roaming on the ground city level, as well as a forested area, in the daylight.
In Dying Light 2 at 4K and High Quality overclocking the Radeon RX 7900 XT has improved performance by a decent 9%. With the card overclocked performance sits above 80FPS average, and competes a lot closer to the GeForce RTX 4080 FE. The overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 14% slower than the GeForce RTX 4080 instead of 20% slower when not overclocked. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 23% faster. We also get a decent boost in performance with overclocking, FSR2 improves performance by a large 51%, so with the card overclocked that brings it to over 120FPS for very smooth gameplay at 4K on a high refresh rate monitor.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.
In Far Cry 6 overclocking the Radeon RX 7900 XT improved performance by 6%, bringing it from 105FPS to 111FPS. This is 7% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 and 32% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. With FSR, the overclocked 7900 XT is 6% faster than the 7900 XT with FSR not overclocked.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.61 and perform a long manual run-through driving in the game’s open world. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”. This game supports DLSS and FSR.
In Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K and “Ultra” settings overclocking the Radeon RX 7900 XT has improved performance by 5%. This brings performance up over 60FPS average in this game, making it smooth and enjoyable at 4K and “Ultra” settings. The performance is very close to the GeForce RTX 4080 now that the video card is overclocked, it’s only 4% slower than the RTX 4080. Compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT the overclocked Radeon RX 7900 XT is 45% faster. FSR2 also helps improve performance, and with overclocking brings it to 70FPS at 4K for a smooth experience.
Watch Dogs Legion
Watch Dogs Legion was released on the PC in October of 2020 and uses the Disrupt game engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and enabled for testing. We use the built-in graphics preset of “Ultra” for testing. This game supports DLSS upscaling.
