AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Game Performance Continued
We are going to focus on the 4K, 1440p, and 1080p gameplay performance with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. The common GPU used for every CPU is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition video card. For CPU comparisons we are including the Intel Core i5-13600K, AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, and AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPUs. Each graph has all three resolutions on each CPU included, but the order and sorting do not change in each graph. You can look at the framerate between CPUs at each resolution. Games are in order from most recent, to least recent.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
Chernobylite was released on the PC in 2021, but the free Enhanced Edition update for the game was released in April 2022. The Enhanced Edition provides a visual overhaul of the game with better textures, plus introduces tessellation and ray tracing features. It features raytraced reflections, raytraced translucency, raytraced caustics, and raytraced dynamic diffuse global illumination. The game is based on Unreal Engine 4.
In Chernobylite Enhanced Edition, which we are playing in DX12 mode and at the highest game settings, seems to perform a lot better on the new AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The X3D 3D V-Cache does wonders for this game, it shows not only at 1080p where the gains are massive but also at 1440p and 4K, we can see them across the board in this game. At 1080p the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X at 1440p it’s 3% faster and at 4K it is 1% faster. The gains are even more pronounced when we compare the 7800X3D with the Core i5-13600K. At 1080p the 7800X3D is a big 11% faster than the 13600K and at 1440p it’s 5% faster and at 4K it is 1% faster. We also see big gains over the 5800X3D, as an upgrade, the 7800X3D would be 15% faster at 1080p!
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2. We have updated the game to the 1.9.4 patch. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Dying Light 2 we are running at the highest settings, and we see that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is faster than all the CPUs here at 1080p. At 1080p the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 6% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X and 7% faster than the Intel Core i5-13600K and 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is also faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X at 1440p by 2% and faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D at 1440p by 2%. Though performance compared to the 13600K at 1440p is about the same.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.
If you want a showcase for the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, it is Far Cry 6. We are seeing absolutely amazing results at 1080p and 1440p included. At 1080p the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a huge 25% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X and 17% faster than the 13600K and 23% faster than the 5800X3D. At 1440p it is still impressive with the 7800X3D at 18% faster than the 7700X and 11% faster than the 13600K and 17% faster than the 5800X3D. 4K is a bit faster on the 13600K, but the 7800X3D is faster than the 7700X even at 4K.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.61 and utilize the built-in benchmark. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”.
In Cyberpunk 2077 running at “Ultra” settings, we find that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a pretty big advantage in performance at 1080p compared to each CPU. Up until the 7800X3D, the 13600K held the fastest performance at 207.8 FPS, but with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, it is now at 219.4 FPS which is 6% faster than the previous champion. Compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X the new 7800X3D is 14% faster at 1080p! It’s also that much faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as well. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D held up quite well to the Ryzen 7 7700X in this game, but the new Ryzen 7 7800X3D takes it to a new level.
