Gameplay Performance at 4K with Ray Tracing
For this section, we enable Ray Tracing in the game. All the settings otherwise remain unchanged, 4K with all the dials turned up as high as they go. DLSS and FSR are once again utilized where it is suitable and supported by the game.
F1 2022
F1 puts a heavy load on the video card with Ray Tracing. We start to see a new trend here. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GAMING OC is now pulling ahead. We see an 18% differential before upscaling, but the game is not near playable. Upscaling brings the game alive and gives our card a 5% boost over the RX 7900 XT.
Dying Light 2
Again, the demands of Ray Tracing are on full display. The game is unplayable without some help. We see a 30% better FPS out of the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti for what it’s worth. We get nearly a 50% boost from upscaling in this game. This pushes the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti into the playable territory. Not so much for the RX 7900 XT.
Far Cry 6
DirectX Ray Tracing is not nearly as demanding on video cards. We see essentially identical performance +/- 1 percent. FSR does boost the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti by 10%. Overclocking does add 3% here.
Cyberpunk 2077
Other than just simply awful, one can see that neither card can take this game head-on. It’s true that the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti is 35% faster, but 35% bad is still bad. Upscaling can’t help either. The game is simply too much at these settings for either card, but the RTX 4070 Ti is 38% faster, for what it’s worth.
Watch Dog Legion
Once again, these tough games are thumping the video cards. Watch Dogs is a little bit better, but not nearly good enough. Neither card is playable. The default card even beats up the overclocked card. There’s only DLSS here, but it can’t rescue anything. The overclocked GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti GAMING OC gets close to playable, but not at all smooth. Statistically speaking, the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti is 12% faster.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
This game includes a very nice benchmark mode. It leans very heavily into Ray Tracing and is demanding. We run the benchmark on the “Extreme” settings and use “Ultra” Ray Tracing. DLSS is supported, Hairworks and Physx are also supported.
The cards are inching ever closer to playable. Our GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti is ahead by a 19% margin. The overclock gains 5% here. Still, we only attain playable FPS when upscaling is enabled, but at least in this game, we can see that progress.
