Power and Temperature
To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data. We use GPU-Z sensor data to record the results. We report on the GPU-Z sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data. For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU) as well as the Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.
Power
We can see that at both the GPU chip level and Total board level, the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO is more power efficient than the prior generation. The power usage is 30% less than the RTX 3070 Ti and 35% less than the RX 6800 XT.
Temperature
As we discussed in the overclocking section, the MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO has a very efficient and quiet cooling solution. We never had to touch the adjustments. The fans run silently. You can see an 18 C difference from the RTX 3070 Ti and a 21 C from the RX 6800 XT. Even overclocked the temperature rose only 4 or 5 C. A very fine cooler.
