Gameplay Performance at 1440p with Ray Tracing
For this section, we enable Ray Tracing in the game. All the settings otherwise remain unchanged, 1440p with all the dials turned up as high as they go. DLSS and FSR are once again utilized where it is suitable and supported by the game.
Now we see that the tables have been turned somewhat. The MSI GeForce RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO 12G now takes over. F1 is very demanding with Ray Tracing enabled. Still, the margin of victory is 16 and 12% better than the RX 6800 XT. The RTX 3070 Ti is 25% behind when DLSS is enabled. Still, all the cards are playable. DLSS gives a nice 60% boost to the MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO!
Dying Light 2
The FPS definitely changes with Ray Tracing. 28% over the RTX 3070 Ti and 37% over the RX 6800 XT. DLSS uplifts by 55% here. The overclocking of the MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO gains over 5%. In this game, all the cards suffer some stutter until the upscaling is enabled.
Far Cry 6
Despite the fact that DX12-based Ray Tracing is kinder to video cards, the trend continues. Our MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO is 14% faster than the RX 6800 XT and 64% over the RTX 3070 Ti. The margin is 8% and 53% with FSR enabled, however, the FPS is so fast here you really don’t need it.
With Ultra Ray Tracing, the game is simply stronger than the video cards. The MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO is out in front by 33% over the RTX 3070 Ti and 66% over the RX 6800 XT but to what advantage when you can’t play the game? The gap is 30% and 59% with upscaling, only the MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO reaches playable territory.
Watch Dogs Legion
You can simply repeat the Cyberpunk performance comments here. This game is very demanding with Ray Tracing enabled. Only the MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO is capable of a playable frame rate, but not without DLSS. Surprisingly, the RX 6800 XT pushes within 3% without upscaling.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
This game includes a very nice benchmark mode. It leans very heavily into Ray Tracing and is demanding. We run the benchmark on the “Extreme” settings and use “Ultra” Ray Tracing. DLSS is supported, Hairworks and Physx are also supported.
The MSI RTX 4070 GAMING X TRIO has a near-playable experience without upscaling. It betters the RX 6800 XT by 16% and the RTX 3070 Ti by 24%. Upscaling is the same result over the RTX 3070 Ti. There is no FSR support in this game.
