Activision is planning to reveal its next Call of Duty project, a “premium” expansion to last year’s Modern Warfare II, on August 1, according to Insider Gaming’s sources. Modern Warfare II was officially announced by Infinity Ward in April 2022 as part of a logo reveal via Twitter, and while it’s unclear how this year’s successor might be revealed, the game could very well surface during an in-game event based on what Activision did with previous entries that include 2020’s Black Ops Cold War and 2021’s Vanguard. Per an older report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the new Call of Duty is an expansion to Modern Warfare II that was developed by Sledgehammer Games, the team behind Advanced Warfare and WWII.
Call of Duty 2023 Key Dates (Rumored)
- Beta weekend 1 (PS4/PS5) – October 6, 2023 – October 10, 2023
- Beta weekend 2 (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/PC) – October 12, 2023 – October 16, 2023
- Campaign Early Access ((PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/PC) – November 2, 2023
- Full Release (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/PC) – November 10, 2023
From an Insider Gaming report:
The current date penciled in for the reveal is August 1st, which falls on a Tuesday. The news implies that we’re unlikely to see Call of Duty 2023 news at this year’s rumored PlayStation Showcase this month.
It’s still unclear on what exactly Call of Duty 2023 will be named, but it’s been widely reported that the game is essentially a continuation of Modern Warfare 2. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has previously revealed that the game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games.
Several sources have also corroborated Call of Duty 2023’s key dates, which Insider Gaming exclusively revealed in February. These dates include a Beta, campaign early access, and the game’s release date.
Let me make this super clear:
— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) November 7, 2022
– The next game, by Treyarch, is coming out in 2024
– Next year there will be a Modern Warfare II "premium" (paid) expansion by Sledgehammer
– It's supposed to have lots of content! Maybe that's why they call it a "full" release. But it's more MWII https://t.co/jXKAiMFcTf
